Don’t you just love it when the box arrives.
That box that has come over the sea, that was anticipated, planned, saved for. That moment when the doorbell rings and there is a delivery. That moment when you open the box to see what you only saw on screen, and you flick through and your heart skips and you feel that you made the right decision. That these books are worth the space on the bookshelf and the time it will take to absorb them.
So happy this arrived yesterday.
I first saw the work of Alabama Chanin in an issue of Selvedge magazine. It was a skirt that drew me in – brown and rusty-red, beautifully irregular and ornate in the simplest of ways. Then, the most recent issue of Selvedge had a t-shirt that featured a Rob Ryan silhouette (don’t you just love his work) stitched on Chanin-style. I found this flickr group. I am besotted. Stay tuned…..
And this – which I have put in and out of my ‘shopping basket’ so many times. It is fun and inspirational, and my head is already full of idea on how to combine techniques from the two books to come up with new layered projects.
If only I could order a shipment of more free time I’d be happy…..
