fade into memory – oil on linen, 2008
My son says sometimes (very excited voice): “This family is so not normal. This family is CRAZY!”.
I am very conscious, with my kids that we should be building happy memories – highlights to be recalled in future years. So we do stuff.
We climb mountains (small climbs – like hanging rock) . We go to the beach, we see waterfalls, we have picnics in the backyard, Take a train to the city just for fun. Nothing extraordinary, but things out of the ordinary for us in our day to day goings-about.
Yesterday we went to the Zoo. And it was enormously good, but I wondered, as I lay in bed last night, what would be the one little memory that they would take out of it.
So this morning I asked.
“What was the best thing about going to the zoo yesterday?”
And they answered in unison: “Seeing the gorilla do a poo.”
Course it was.
