I’m wondering, since I will be putting 10 litle works into the exhibition, and I am about to frame them……
Should there be glass or no glass.
The frames I use appeal to me because they are plain, simple and have a lovely compact solid feel about them. Minimal but not too heavy.
Putting a sheet of glass into them dulls the colour a little and subdues brushstrokes (picture on the left), but adds a layer of protection to the piece. I suppose it makes them easier to dust.
When I’ve sold these little ones in the past it has been without glass (picture on the right). It feels a bit more modern to me, but maybe the general impression is that something with glass is a bit more thought out and nicer?
Any opinions? Which would you rather in a framed piece?
Hi there,
My first gut reaction was no glass. The frames you chose helps them “pop”- both are bright in their own way and should be kept so. I’m also not really one for keeping paintings behind glass. They should be free and seen as such. If someone loves a piece and/or wants to buy it, I doubt they’ll be thinking about glass or no glass. Just my humble opinion.
Enjoy the exhibition.
no glass means no reflection and better colour:)
I think no glass too Michelle 🙂
The colours are so much better sans glass i just dont think it needs glass at all it adds nothing to the painting 🙂
i agree, no glass. I think that the paintings should be accessable and able to be touched, i think that glass is more suitable for a print…
Your paintings seem to have a lot of texture, which I think would be lost with the glass over it. I prefer no glass with paintings, as others have noted the glass seems to work better with prints and drawings.
No glass!!
I love my little burlesque girl without the glass to dull her colours and soften her textures.
I love to touch my painitings..
