Saturday Morning, Oil on Linen, 2007
I finished this off the other day, and thought it would be a good one to pop on this morning’s post – being Saturday and all.. 🙂
It’s a big one – just over 1m sq, and I was able to incorporate lots of my recent learnings into this piece. One of the more interesting things I’ve learned about how oils work, is that unless the piece is very, very, very dry, there will be some inevitable bleeding up into the next layers. I kind of like this, and it helped a lot in some areas.
I’ve been doing some serious technical reading about the proper handling of the medium. Nerdy but inspiring too. I keep getting little ‘ah ha!’ moments, and boring my poor husband silly with my excitement. There is so much to know, and so much that I skim over and then go back and plod through. It’s a fascinating book though – because it was written almost 100 years ago, and updated in the 40’s, so he is talking about the impressionists as a very new movement, with their treatment of colour as an important and interesting discovery. He HATES ‘modern’ brash art, and I dread to think what he would have thought of some of the work produced in the last 30 years.
My two shows are creeping up quickly, with another one before them, and I can’t seem to work fast enough.
Trying not to panic……
