Saturday morning – work in progress
Still going with this painting. I’m enjoying it, but oh it’s slow……. I keep going back and thinking – the background should be darker – no, the figure should be darker…… I’m leaving it for a coupld of days before I touch it again and make a mess. 😉
My fabrics arrived from Z&S yesterday, and I think there mustn’t be a nicer way to buy fabric. Arn’t those bows special!
Z&S is a US company, that I found through Leslie’s blog. The fabrics are cheap, and they have huge range, plus they regularly have big sales. I got more than enough fabric for the front and back of a new quilt for Miss Z.
I’ve been fiddling with a few fabrics from the Kaffe Fasset Rowan range that I bought a little while back with her in mind, and decided that my collection looked too ‘hot’, and needed some neutrals to cool down a bit. It seems strange that a cool colour like aqua should come out too hot, but I found after painting our kitchen/dining area a few years back, that the wrong shade can become opressive and stifling. Not what you want when wanting to create a calming quilt for a high-energy little girl.
Not that I have much time for quilting at the moment with shows creeping up at a frightening rate, but it’s nice to play and think about the project before I jump in, and using Alison’s method, I have a good way to record various combinations and play and reflect before cutting. Sometimes I’m dumb like that. The simplest things can elude me while I’m struggling to find perfect… Simplicity is never easy.
We have a kids party today, a wedding tonight, and a full day relaxing together tomorrow as a family, so by Monday I should be raring to finish the painting and move on to a new one. Hurrah! 🙂
