New work – still in progress……..
I have resolved (again), to do less. It feels sometimes that every time I try to be the perfect mother/wife, life conspires to trip me up.
Yesterday, cleaned the house, did washing, shopped for important present for a niece’s first communion, all the while entertaining Miss Z. In the afternoon a spot of painting. Picked up Mr M from school, came home, made Pizza dough, afternoon tea, Scacciata for husband (all the while trying to fend off the scavenger – miss z from cupboard, fridge, bench top, floor, or perhaps bin..). Organised Pizza toppings in fun-filled ‘lets make our own dinner’ kids activity. Pizza made with much merriment – and in the oven, while kids mill about peeking at it and looking forward to eating it.
Call from husband 7 minutes later.
Has left shop keys at home and his partner has left for a school concert, and so cannot return with his set of keys to close shop. Husband has rehearsal to attend. Must hurry, must come immediately.
Turn off oven knowing Pizza will be ruined, load kids in car and head into city through peak hour traffic with keys in hand. Husband insists on driving return journey to rehearsal (no dinner for him). Try to explain to confused children why there will be no exciting pizza. Collect take-away dinner which Miss Z refuses to eat. She begs for scrambled eggs, and as it is now 8.00pm and there have been no customary baths, and they should really be asleep, I comply.
I am grumpy with them – and it is not their fault.
Delightful angel-children do all that is requested including brushing teeth with no complaints, and sliding into bed. Read stories, sing songs. All asleep by 9.30
Clean the kitchen, throw Pizza in bin, tidy toys, load dishwasher (bless the dishwasher), and sit down at computer for 10 minutes to cruise blogs.
Husband returns home.’Hello grumpy’ he greets me, and then does his usual vacuum whip round.
Today I may just lie on my back outside, and look at the clouds……………………………
If you live in Melbourne, and have kids of a suitable age, this might be worth checking out on Sunday. We’d be there, but we have this communion thing we have to go to instead. 🙂
