Lookouts. 5″ x 7″. Oil on canvas
One of the things I’m working on for one of my upcoming shows is a series of small canvases of birds. I’m planning on having about 20 of them. All small, to be tiled up in a lovely big patchwork. I’m having a lot of fun with them, and their funny little heads and toes.
There is a marvellous freedom in the birds, and their stories, and a marvellous freedom in working in a few of them at a time – bringing paint from one canvas to the other – hopefully ensuring a harmonious whole, while bringing something unexpected into a painting colourwise.
Quite a lot of inspiration is to be gotten from my own 2 birds, who are growing quickly, becoming more independant, and nicer by the day.

It must be said that shortly after I became the human trampoline and all peace moved in to something entirely different, but no less wonderful. I do feel so blessed to be spending my mothering days with two such precious people, and while I sometimes wish they would grow up faster and give me some space, on the whole I treasure these moments, and busily file them away in my head for future reference. It’s getting pretty full in there. 😉
This afternoon (Miss Z willing) I will be painting, and am frightfully excited at the prospect with a huge new linen stretched and gessoed standing by…….
