I’ve been tagged by Kirsten for a Meme, so here it is, 8 things about me:
When I was a kid I used to find money quite often – not just coins either – but notes, which for a child in the 70’s was a LOT of money. I’d find notes tripping down the street in the breeze, or against a tree. It made me feel quite lucky – and I try to remind myself these days that there are opportunities under my nose I just need to look out for them.
Apparently I learned to walk and talk well before I was one year old.
I failed maths fairly consistently throughout my schooling and now numbers just paralyse me with anxiety.
I am very confident but also very shy, and hate meeting new people. I am getting better at this with age – and some days I even enjoy the experience.
In my late teens and early 20’s I used to be a nighclub queen, and would dance myself into exhaustion. My favourite request was an old song that was so fun to dance to – Rock Lobster – by the B52’s. At one club I frequented I usually won a bottle of Champagne for going crazy to that fabulous song. It still moves me.
When I was in year 6 (1979), I was chosen to represent the children of Tasmania in presenting a ‘Rights of the child’ charter to the Lord Mayor of Hobart in front of what seemed like an enormous crowd of people. I was trained to deliver the speech, and can still remember it today.
We moved a lot when I was growing up. I went to 5 schools in my primary years and another in my secondary. Having to make new friends a lot made me very loyal and protective of my longer term friendships. Not much is more sacred to me than friends and family.
I compulsively need to keep busy. I always have several projects on the go – and it’s virtually impossible for me to just sit still and watch something on the television. I truly envy those who can just sit back and empty their hands.
Now I need to go and tag 8 people to do this meme. There are people who I hope will do it, but I don’t want to be pushy, so what I’d really like, is for some of your lurkers to post a bit about yourselves, and if you have a blog, let me know and I’ll link to you!
