I am a HOARDER. There – I’ve said it.
If you care to rummage through my cupboards you will find – in particular a lot of fabric which has been bought in a fever of excitement – with the intention of saving money and doing something interesting, and then the sewing muse has left the building. Damn she’s flighty – where is she?
I have a bee in my bonnet about everything being made cheaply in China – cusing more landfill because we buy more than we need – and taking advantage of cheap labour. So I resolved – inspired in a fairly large way by Nichola to make more – and use what I have in the cupboards to do it.
Along the way I have been lured to buy more fabric and basic patterns to fuel my fantasies…. So I have broken some big rules, but they are so inspiring……
Above is a new dress for Zara – made from linen, and scrap fabric (I even made the bias binding myself). There are way more pieced seams in the dress than the pattern required – but I’m making do – and it sort of looks like a design feature. At the moment she is wearing this dress over long sleeved tops and pants. By summer – it will be a dress. It was easy – and fun. I’m hooked.
I’m trying to build one garment a week into my plan, so that by summer – we will have more clothes of our own – and less from the shops. Wish me luck – and give it a go yourself. 😉
