New work – in progress
Fiddled around with this a fair bit yesterday. Still unsure of the tail. First she was very hippy, then I decided to slim her right down to a more aerodynamic form, now she’s in the middle…….. I think she’ll have a seaweed boa……..
One of the reasons I don’t post works in progress much, is that I feel a bit inconsistent if the composition changes. I think I need to relax about that a bit more, it’s all part of the process.
As a child I was fascinated by mermaids, used to dream I was one, fashioning tails for myself out of all sorts of things. I couldn’t wait until I was old enough to use Mum’s sewing machine so I could make myself a real tail and try it out at a pool somewhere. There was a picture in a book we had (think it might have been a coles funny picture book), of a ‘real’ mermaid in a tank – her hair flowing out all around. Beautiful.

Fantastic work! Though I’ve always wondered which half should be the fish..hehe
I think that the tail looks beautiful… elegant and womanly. I too loved mermaids as a child, especially Ariel from the little mermaid story.
I think you’ve got the combination of breasts, belly and hips just right, but could the tail be a little longer before it slims down?
Love the movement in the water, too. It’s often the hardest thing to do (besides clouds, according to my painting sister).
Don’t keep the progress shots to yourself either; we want to share the journey (and the fun)!
I have a fetish with mermaids.
I have travelled the world collecting them, in myriad shape and form.
She is BEAUTIFUL!!!
I love her.
Must have her…
