Duck Day – acrylic + wax on linen, 2007.
My cousin lives in Hampton, and the other day as we were talking on the phone she looked out the window to see a mother duck taking her babies for a walk down the street in the rain. How fantastic! In Melbourne – where it’s quite built up to see a lovely thing like that. I was quite envious.
I do like ducks (not for dinner). I love their waddle, their powerful little legs and feet, that supreme curve under their beak, the way a drake’s tail curves and curls, seeing tiny little duckling – no more than a fistful battling the elements to keep up with mother.
Reminds me all how powerful we can be. If a duck can do it – so can we.

Hi! (coming to you live from QLD:)
I’ve seen ducks near me too! One actually came up our drive a month ago! Very Weird to see in Elsternwick! great painting!
Daniel:)
Oh I do love ducks too.
I love their little smiling duck faces.
We have two that regularly land in our pool, swimming about happily…and leaving splodgy little duck poos by the edge…grrr
